In 1936 Hortulus was invited to become a member of the Garden Club of America. Hortulus members have enjoyed recognition for horticulture, flower arranging, photography and conservation, receiving awards and prizes for their work. In addition to our monthly membership workshops, lectures and committee meetings, our annual highlights include: Each fall, since 1968, we have an in-house flower show known as “Hortulus Harvest", featuring our gardens’ bounty with classes for flower arranging, horticulture and photography. Our December meeting has a festive Christmas theme. In the spring we have a special tradition, our Auxiliary; those members in their three-year provisional membership, present a light-hearted and informative program. The year finishes with the Annual Meeting in June and wonderful visiting garden trips in the summer months. Hortulus also has a long tradition of civic service. The club's contributions include landscaping at Greenwich Hospital and Library, The Mews, and the YWCA. Hortulus has also made contributions to the Garden Education Center, Greenwich Audubon, Greenwich Adult Day care, the Stamford Bartlett Arboretum and NY Botanical Garden. |
